چکیده

The crystallinity of cellulose is one of the main structural parameters determining properties like accessibility and reactivity of cellulose. Native cellulose (e.g., wood, pulp, cotton, kenaf, bacteria cellulose) consists of the cellulose I, regenerated cellulose consists of the cellulose II modification. WAXS (wide angle X-ray scattering) is the standard method for the determination of crystallinity of cellulose samples. This method was established by Hermans and Weidinger in 1949 [1]. Nowadays the information concerning crystallinity of cellulose I can be obtained by other methods as well, e.g. Fourier Transform (FT) Raman, FTinfrared (IR), or solid state C-NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance) spectroscopy. A matrix of cellulose I samples from different sources was investigated using the methods mentioned above. The results were compared with those of the standard WAXS method.

Overview on Native Cellulose and Microcrystalline Cellulose I Structure Studied by X-ray Diffraction (waxd): Comparison between Measurement Techniques

The crystalline structure of cellulose has been studied for a long time. It is well known that crystallinity of cellulose can be measured using quite a number of methods, X-ray diffraction, solid state C CP-MAS NMR, Fourier transforminfrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy. The solid state C CP-MAS NMR and FT-IR spectroscopy considers contributions from both crystalline and non-crys...

Biotechnological Production of Cellulose by Gluconacetobacter Xylinus from Agricultural Waste

The purpose of this study was to utilize low quality date syrup, a rich and available source of nutrient in Iran, for the production of bacterial cellulose using Gluconacetobacter xylinus. Static batch fermentationfor the purpose of cellulose production by G. xylinus (PTCC, 1734) was studied using low quality date syrupand sucrose solution (Bx. 10%) as fermentation media at 28°C. Re...

Determination of cellulose crystallinity by terahertz-time domain spectroscopy.

Terahertz-time domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) has the ability to probe the crystallinity of several materials, due to the interaction of THz radiation with optical phonons in crystal lattices. In this work, THz-TDS has been used to quantify the degree of crystallinity of microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) samples. The THz spectra of cellulose present absorption features which could be directly cor...

Estimation of cellulose crystallinity of lignocelluloses using near-IR FT-Raman spectroscopy and comparison of the Raman and Segal-WAXS methods.

Of the recently developed univariate and multivariate near-IR FT-Raman methods for estimating cellulose crystallinity, the former method was applied to a variety of lignocelluloses: softwoods, hardwoods, wood pulps, and agricultural residues/fibers. The effect of autofluorescence on the crystallinity estimation was minimized by solvent extraction or chemical treatment or both. Additionally, whe...

Dissolution and Regeneration of the Produced Nano Bacterial Cellulose of Food Industries Wastewaters by a Cost-Benefit Method

This paper applied a simple and cost-benefit method for the production of regenerated bacterial cellulose. The inexpensive production of cellulose with complex media derived from wastewater from food industries such as molasses adds a lot of contaminants to the produced bacterial cellulose, which puts a lot of challenges in cellulose purification. Therefore, the present study aimed...
